Coin I.D. info ?

Can anyone please tell me if there is a standard "coin bible" reference book that is used to determine coin values ? Hopefully something basically straight-forward and simple to reference i.e. not too technical. My brain gets lost in technical stuff. I was going through my entire collection of wheaties I've recovered ( 6 ! ) and have a 1913 S. I know nothing of coin values so I'd like to look this up as well as other clad coins that may be worth more than face value. Sorry, I'd post a pic but you've all seen wheat cents before and my camera will not show any clear details. Thanks.

That's a keeper, in good condition probably 10 or 12 dollars. Most people like the Red book, there is also a Blue book. Any large book store would have them. Yeoman was the original author. They come out annually.

I wouldn't count on the Red or Blue books because a dealer would never pay that amount. Better to go on eBay and see what the trends are. But don't clean it, or you will reduce the worth. Nice find.

The Official Red Book is about $15.00.It covers U.S. coins from 1616 to present. I don't rely on it for values but for the information it gives on all the different coins. It is well worth the money, in my opnion.

Thanks for all the info. BTW the coin was totally out of place in regards to the rest of the coins I was finding. All the others were modern clad going back to the early 60's on some pennies but no silver. Found it only about 4-5" down in muddy conditions. I wasn't even certain I had found a wheat until I checked a few days later. I was surprised to say the least but I had no idea I had found anything special
at all until I started reading about other finds. Thanks again
