Coin hunting in relic mode

I got my MXT last year, Reason i got it was to see if there were deeper coins i was missing. I went over the old sites i had pounded and started getting nickles i had missed. I had a record year for keeper coins. I ended up with 95 Indian Heads, 4 Two cent pieces, 1 Three cent piece, 8 Shield Nickle, 16 Liberty Nickles, 6 Buffalo Nickles, 10 Seated Dimes, 7 Barber Dimes, 4 Mercury Dimes. 1 Seated Quarter, and 1 Barber Quarter. I think it is a great machine. It also finds brass and relics good. I like the relic mode cause of not having to watch the screen, just waiting for high signals.

What was the difference in depth using the relic mode verses the C&J mode? Is this mode better for trash separation? What was your sensitivity and discrimination set at? What coil were you using? Do you remember your icon or VDI number on the three cent piece?

Nice bunch of finds you have found with the MXT. My wife and me when using the MXT always uses the relic mode as like you find that going by the high tones is much easier than going by the meter. Just set the disc and everything not disc out will be a high tone and the items disc out will be low tones. If too many low tone push the trigger forward and now most low tones will null. Find we can tell more about a target and so much easier to tell a good target from a bad one.

Nice find and good luck on your next finds.

Rick

Sounds like you have not only figured out how to effectively use your MXT, but also done your homework on sites to hunt. That is quite a collection of old coins. You mention that you found these because you feel the MXT goes deeper than your previous machines. How deep were the majority of these found? Personally, I have not found my MXT to be any deeper than a couple other machines I have. But I will say the trash/target separation is very good. Also curious if that was a 3 cent silver or 3 cent nickel and the VDI of the 2 cent pieces. Again. Very nice finds. HH Randy

When i get time i'll come up with the read out numbers and post them. They vary due to lots of things such as angle coin is laying at. and depth and if other objects are close by. 3 center was a nickle one. I believe it rang up as an positive 8.

In relic mode it comes up at a postive 8 (button). farther away it reads as a zero (foil). One of the three hardest coins to find, or so i've been told.
