I took the AT Gold coin hunting today. I had to work today so I couldn't go Gold prospecting, but I did get to hit a park and soccer Field between jobs. The first park was at the lake and I hit it this morning. I probably spent a little more than an hour hunting. First let me say, I am an old Minelab dealer and I am kind of partial to my Etrac for coin hunting. I have hundreds of hours coin hunting with it and in my personal opinion it is the best silver machine out there. I have never hunted with a Garret detector so this will be my first, well except for my Garret Pro Pointer.
I started off in all metal and then changed to disc 1 after about 10 minutes. I am used to hunting with multi tone and not by Numbers. I did try disc 2 out but for me it pulled a little too much out, so I stuck with disc 1. First I have to say this thing picked out coins fast even when they were surrounded by pull tabs and twist tops. I found several coins with trash in the same hole. It likes the Etrac wiggle. I didn't pay too much attention to the numbers I just listened for the high tones. After finding a few coins I started thinking about rings and nickels. My ears are still trying to get used to the sounds the ATGold makes, but I think that objects with a hole in them makes a distinct sound. After reading a bunch of post about the ATPro I learned that nickels come in at around 53, so I dug a lot of 53. I dug 16 squar pull tabs before I got a nickel. I think with more time I will get better at finding nickels. I do know I got tired of pull tabs. My second hunt was in the rain. Cant do that with the Etrac. It was a soccer field that I have never hunted. It was
loaded with clad. I think I could have pulled three or four dollars an hour out of it. I only
got to make one go around before lighting ran me off. I did seem to key in on dimes
today. All the coins I dug were shallow, nothing over 4", not because I didnt hear them, just becasue our ground is like a rock.
I didnt buy the AT Gold for coin hunting I got it for gold prospecting, but it is a great coin machine and it seems to have pretty good depth capabilities. I guess I will have to find some silver with it.
