Does anyone ever find anything deep,my finds are usually around 7 inches,but I know the se pro will go deeper.Just been wondering if I should get a ultimate coil or stick with the pro coil.I live in Pennsylvania,my at pro gb at 82 but it seems everyone's seems to gb around the 80s,so I have no idea what my mineral content is.I know it's said high mineral content is hard to get depth,but I don't know if mines harsh or not,and hat leads to my original question...How deep do you find your coins?

Coin depth

There's a lot of opinions about this, here's mine. I live in an area where the top soil is fairly shallow, maybe 8 inches on average. I find that I very seldom find any coins in the clay subsoil below the top soil. I have found a few coins at 9 or 10 inches where the top soil is deeper. I think some areas that have deeper top soil (mid-west), the coins can be found at deeper levels. Also the mineral level has a lot to do with it. I would say that most of my good finds are in the 6 to 8 inch range.

Im glad you bought this topic up.I live in England and i have a test bed with modern coins in it.The soil of my test bed is mild and my se will pick up coins a lot deeper than 7".However,i only recently aquired the se and am finding that some of our modern coins are not responding as i thought they would.Im finding that some are showing up in the top right hand corner of the smart screen,even though they have no ferrous content.So i have the depth,but id accuracy is a bit confusing to say the least.

Like mentioned by others, I think it depends on the soil in your location. If you have clay then the coins do not go much deeper. If you have sand then they can be much deeper. I have been to several states in the US and it is amazing to discover the variables you discover in this hobby. The true point of all this is you should not focus on the depth of the coins others have found. But more focus on age/date of coins you are finding. If the coins you are finding at the 7 inch depth are old then you are on the right track. GL and HH
