Coin cleaning question

Guest
I would like to clean some clad coins, but I do not have a tumbler. Someone on this site recommended muriatic acid. What % should be used? How long? Does the acid need to be neutralized before I pour it down the drain or should I take it to a chemical waste center?
Thanks,
Surfline

Surfline, Stay away from the acid.Buy a tumbler. It will give you years of clad cleaning service and the cost is very reasonable.Good Luck, Walter

Walter,
Thank you. Where can I get a tumbler? How much? What do I mix the coins with in the tumbler?
Surfline

Hi Surfline,Look on the internet.I bought a Lortone 3A 3lb. tumbler many years ago and it still going.I think they go for 55.00.I use aquarium gravel, white vinegar.and a splash of dish soap and your clad coins.I normally fill barrel a little over half fill with all ingredients and let tumble for 3 hours or so.Good Luck Walter
