Coiltek 18x12 Mono Coilcases........................

Mega

New member
I would like some help please on how Coiltek coilcases are joined ?? i have just received a brand new 18x12 Goldstalker Mono case as in the top and bottom complete with skid plate and pigtail but minus windings, this i assume was from a ex display stand at some moment in time.

So my plan is to wind my own inners for my Pulse machine,i already have the wire to wind the coil and also the coil cable etc,but as yet i cannot fathom out how the top and bottom cases are joined,i have checked on YouTube and someone else has repaired the exact same coil due to winding problems but they dont show how they split the coil cases apart.

Are they joined by rubber mastic type of glue as i dont think it would be done with plastic glue but of course i could be wrong,so has anyone done a reapir on a Coiltek case, its a brand new case and once i can get them apart i can then wind my own coil then place it into the coilcase that i have just bought.

Any help or advice would be most welcome.

Problem has been resolved, the top and bottom halves of the coil case have had either plastic glue or heat welded used during construction so they cannot be taken apart, but as the coil has come with a brand new coil protecter on the bottom which is a very good fit we plan on using a wood router to make a channel in the bottom of the coil and then add the windings. Then the coil protector will be glued using silicon glue and no one will have a clue that its be altered in any way.

If at any time in the future it requires a new coil cover all that need too be done is strip the old silicon glue away and then add a new one then re-seal it again.

As we are all aware these large coils for a Pulse machine are not cheap but after buying the coil case and as i all ready had the wire it will only cost me about $25 all in to build it,what a result it will take me a little time to wind it etc but the only cost was the actual coil case.

This is the Coiltek 18x12 Coil housing that i am using.

Its a fair size coil case, and i doubt that i would ever find another one like it,i guess it must have been used for display purposes in a shop or something like that, but anyway over the next few days i will start winding the coil and then install it inside the coil case.

Good luck with your new coil, lets us know how its performs.

Many thanks,i will be making the winding tomorrow as i have all the tolerances that i need to build it too, have bought the coax and the coil connector today, after the windings have been installed into the housing i wont seal the casing till i have done some tests, then i will use a special waterproof silicone sealer to make it totally weather proof.

Will give it a few outings then give my final verdict on it,as it is such a big coil it will be able to find coin size objects but best suited too larger objects and certainly not gold nugget size finds for sure, not that we have any nuggets over here in the UK anyway.

The bigger target the deeper it will go,but that is what i wanted it for deep work.

Have just finished routing a small channel in the bottom of the coil case so that the winding will fit inside the coil case and the added bonus is the case is already foam filled,i had originally thought it was hollow but its much better having foam inside as this will stop the windings moving around.

Wont have time today to wind the wire but it wont be a long job as i have all the specifications of how many winding and all the measurment worked out by a few boffins, and they all work out the same.

Once the coil has been wound and secured inside the coil case i will then secure the skid plate on the bottom with cable ties and then try it out for a day or so on my farm permission and test bed. Then the final sealing of the case can be done this will make it totally weatherproof this will be done with silicone sealer so that i can always take it apart at sometime in the future if need too.

Will take a few photos of the winding and finsihed coil, once built no one will ever have a clue that its a home made coil.

Mega B can you drop me exact link with info what you use and what tolerance to make coil, can make my self coil easy just dond have time to read all info in Geotech forum, Have the Mnelab PI too. Thanks Stasys

I had my 1st ever attempt at winding a coil on a oval winding frame that i had made last night, have too admit if nothing else it looks like a good job,i wound it to the 19 turns that we had worked out, dont ask me how we arrived at the amount of turns only electronic boffins could explain, also i dont have a meter so i can measure if i have got it right. So i am at the stage of do i take a chance and fit it all together and just hope its all worked out right or do i wait till i can get a meter on it.Decisions

Anyway the plan is currently tie the windings together so that it does not all fall apart and then see if a mate can use a meter on it later on,i woill be most suprised if the measurments are right 1st time as this is really my 1st attempt at winding a coil, but as i understand it a large coil that will be used solely for relic/haord hunting is not as critical as say a small coil for small nugget hunting.Of course i stand to be corrected on this one.

Will try and update later on what the meter reads as that dictates what will happen next either another winding attempt or i can install it in the coil case.

Ok MegaB , most important to try. On another computer have very nice link how to make Pi coil, very informative. Will send you later.
