Coiltek 15" WOT on Explorer XS

Looking at a used 15" WOT to put on a XS have heard good and bad things about this coil. Owner was honest enough to tell me that it had been on beach he is selling it because it came with multi coil deal and hadn't hooked it up to see if worked. Will be used for relic hunting if I buy it.What is a fair price also. Any advice?

I think the WOT is great on the Ex if you can swing it ( its a heavy combo) I would not give over 150.00 $ for a used WOT.

I think it is very light considering the size. It is tricky to pinpoint with at first- you sound like u have a deep target and it turns out to be a target on the outer ring of the coil that is no pinpointed correctly. It definitely serves a purpose, I just don't use it that often.

I love my WOT 15" and I only use it for Relic Hunting as of now. It is a bit heavier than the Pro Coil, and I find it is W A Y more sensitive than the Pro also, I usually will have to hunt between 17-21 on the Sensitivity -vs- 25-27 with the Pro Coil. But, I can cover alot more area and it does GREAT finding deep items. YES the depth guage is usually not accurate, but when I am hunting for old buttons or relics.... that doesn't matter to me. I bought mine new for $215 And I agree that I would not pay more than $150 HOWEVER, a must is a Second Lower Shaft that is permanently attached to the WOT because removing/attaching the WOT coil is a Royal PAIN. One more note, I think that the WOT pinpoints as good as the Pro Coil. Seperation between targets is also excellent. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

I just added a WOT 15" coil to my Safari and am hooked. I'm a relic hunter too and generally dig in large fields where the extra coverage area is a major plus. I agree that the WOT seems more sensitive than the stock 11" DD Coil and I have had no trouble pulling targets out of trashy fields. Pinpointing is about the same as the stock coil, the only problem I have had is with really rusty iron targets which do not pinpoint well with any DD coil.

The only down side is the weight, which is actually minimal comapred to other oversized coils. I found that shortening the lower shaft by about 3/4 inch made up for the extra weight and balanced the machine perfectly. With the machine balanced, the weight is hardly noticeable. I agree on buying the additional lower shaft because it can be a bear to get the wire threaded through properly and, to me, it was worth the extra 50 or so bucks to save the time and avoid the aggravation.

The only real down side I have found was swinging the coil in a field of 6-8 inch tall alfalfa. It was like swinging a scythe and my shoulder paid for the efforts.

Just a humble opinion,
TomH

My opinion on the Wot/Exp combo is that you do not gain any depth on coin-sized targets. You only increase coverage. This is probably because, for the Explorer, the 10.5" coil is about the "point of diminishing returns" on the old-rule of larger coils = more depth (for coin-sized targets anyhow). It will be more warbly and fishy in performance, but otherwise gets more coverage, maintains good separation (considering its size), and isn't that heavy. Used prices seems to be $100 to $150-ish.
