Coiltec WOT- Why the big NOISE?

I bought a WOT recently for my Explorer II. I notice that when you have it in pinpoint mode, and put the machine down, after about 3 seconds lying down, the machine starts blaring. The only way to get rid of the noise is to switch back to non-pinpoint mode. Is this standard for this coii?

What you're hearing is the auto threshold changing slowly to the point where it becomes background noise. Just switch back to disc or IM after you've pinpointed and this problem will not be a problem. I don't think this is standard to this coil, just standard to this machine. That, and the WOT is a lot bigger antenna and more susceptible to background noise. My 10" stock coil did this, and my WOT does it also, so I just dismissed it as the nature of the beast.
I usually switch back to disc mode right after pinpointing just to be sure I pinpointed the right target anyway. Beats digging a target that was right next to what you wanted...

I do not have this issue with the standard and small loops that came with the machine.

JB,
I do not have the problem all the time, mainly because I generally switch out of the pinpoint mode before laying down the detector. But, sometimes I forget to do that. I have noticed that sometimes, after laying the detector down to dig the target, that I begin to get a lot of "noise" in the earphones. I can tell by constant pitch of the audio that I have forgotten to switch out of the pinpoint mode. I believe that the amount of "noise" heard depends upon where the coil is placed when the detector is on the ground. If there is a lot of iron under the coil, then the noise is greater.
I have not done much investigation into the issue and what I have stated is really on a gut feeling.
Thanks for your response and HH.
