coils

JM

New member
have just bought a GT ,and was wondering which is the better coil the 10" Tornado, or the 12" Detech coil ,also which is the better with the minelab meter,
lots of questions but would like your advice please

I feel the stock coil will be better all around coil. If you are new to the GT I would recommend a smaller coil before a bigger one to help learn this detector.
I was not too happy with a 10 inch BBS coils that were on the older Sovereigns as my 8 inch Coin search seem to do so much better and when I got the GT with the 10 inch Tornado coil i was going to sell it and get a 8 inch Tornado coil. After I used it a bit I found I did like this 10 inch Tornado coil as it does a good job. Now if I was going to get a bigger coil I find the S12 of Sun Rays to really do well and it is hard to beat by any coil I have used and I like to try them all.

I have not tried the 12 inch that you are talking about, I do know for a fact that the 10 inch tornado is one hell of a coil and goes very very deep. As for 12 inch coils, the sunray 12 inch coil is thought to be the best and judging from the sunray coil that I have I believe sunray makes the best coil. There is absoutley nothing wrong with the tornado coils they are great.....My deepest coin was found with the 10 inch tornado, (A measured 14 inches in moderetly moist soil). The dietech coils seem to lack stability in certian ground conditions and from what I hear they are prone to falsing more near iron then other coils of that size.....I would go with the tornado and if you really want a 12 inch coil then look into the sunray.......And I have no doubt that the tornado is better with the minelab meter ......I hope this helps ....good luck

I think the Tornado 800 coil is extremely good with the meter and tones.I sold the 800 coil with a Sovereign GT that was auctioned off and kept the Coinsearch for the replacement. The Coinsearch may edge the 800 in depth but the little coil separates better and is very stable.
