For really trashy sites , Nel Sharpshooter or sef 8x6? Or like a round detech or sunray coil? Also how does the sef 10x12 coil do in a trashy site?

Tough question, I don't have all of these coils. Where I am the small 6 inch Minelab or Detech work great. I have the 10 X 12 and it will pick up in trashy areas but smaller coils will help with separation.

For really heavy trashy sites, I would go with Sun Ray X5 coil. It is very small and like a laser detecting through the iron and amazingly in the depth that can be achieved . I have seven coils for my E-Trac and Explorer, all of the Sun Ray coils X5, X8,X12 - SEF 6X8,10X12, 12X15 and 13 inch Ultimate. They all serve a purpose, however to answer your specific question " for really trashy sites " the X5 is the answer your looking for. IMO.

I agree 100% on the X-5 in the heavy stuff. Depth and separation are incredible with this coil. But it is small and made to be hunted slow. The sef 6x8 does very well in trash and iron also with a little more coverage. This coil is a beast of a coil. But if you are in the heavy stuff and have the time to pic through there is no substitute for the X-5. I would go head-to-head with anyone in heavy iron with it .It's just that good.

The 10x12 is not bad in iron either I have went back over a site that I pounded with the x-5 and found stuff. Running no discrimination with conducive sounds. Sensitivity set at 26 manual. Very noisy but if you can stand it you will be impressed with it. It's a heavy coil though and as far as I can see the only negative to it.

Agreed 100%. It's stupidly accurate.

I know all soil is different but what kind of depth are you guys getting with the 5.5? I know this is crazy but the explorer 2 se with the 11 in dd coil is picking up my masked dime in my test bed! I could not get my ctx to do it with the 6 in or stock coils. I have not been able to get any of the probably 12 detectors I have bought and sold in the last couple years to find the masked dime. Just getting started with this explorer but I am impressed from day one with it so far.
