Hi, I lost my H.S. class in 1964 at the edge a open field. The area has alot of road side beer cans and pull tabs. I detected on this site( MXT) and did recover some silver coins but the clutter is bad. What coil will give me the depth and narrow band to up my chances of finding my ring.

Thanks,
Jay

First you'll need to clear away as much trash you can. I would start off with the stock coil or any bigger coil. Dig anything and everything. It could be masked by other metals. What coils do you have? Nancy

Hi Jay, I would use the 5" coil for Whites. It cut through the trashiest places i have every seen . Good Luck Dean

Finding some silver coins is a good sign, to me, suggesting that it might not have been detected before (in which case your ring might be gone).

The first thing to do is remove the "clutter." I'd suggest using a rake or at least just a lot of hand-picking to gather up as much trash as possible.

Once most of the visible trash is out of the way you can get down to detecting. A stock coil might work fine, as long as there still isn't a lot of metal, or you can opt for a smaller coil. My favorite is the 5.3 Eclipse. At about 6

I've also had to use a weed whacker on occasion to get some depth & make it easier to move the coil. Try not to "whack" too low...You might send your ring flying!

Good Luck, DR

Thanks to all of you for good information. I may or may not find the ring but everything in that area will be! Thanks again ----Jay

I use the 4x6DD shooter for the trashy areas myself but like Nancy posted it might be masked by junk and it looks like you got your work cut out for you finding your ring, good luck!
