New member
Per Steve Herchbach answering my question concerning coils available for the new Vision with a post made by Carl. What,or does,Whites have coils they are working on that will be Vision compatible....size,type,concentric,eliptical???
Ive never used a machine that has TX boost,and since most of the soil where I hunt is mild,this may be a bonus for me. Just curious if you do amp up your boost,will that effect the gain? Do you have to adjust one to compensate for the other? Like to much noise,maybe have to lower gain a bit??
Looks like maybe, Ill be selling a M6 with coils. Ill never get rid of my XL Pro tho,lol.

Did Carl answer your question on coils? I pretty much know the answer, but it looks like you were going to post something and didn't.

Repeat - Older loops will usually work... no guarantee, but I haven't seen one that wouldn't work.

But if you do want to use the TX boost you will want the newer coils. Eventually all the DFX coils will be optimized. As far as types just look at what works with the DFX/MXT/M6 and you have your answer.

AS for the TX Boost, again, I'll quote Carl:

"TX Boost: This feature boosts the TX voltage from 10V to 30V. The age-old claim that the FCC limits detector TX power IS A MYTH. What happens when you turn on TX Boost? Well, you get only a very slight increase in depth, with a major drain on batteries. This is the REAL reason that detector TX power is limited, and why the deepest detectors require a motorcycle battery. I rarely use TX Boost... but in one heavily hunted field, I found a very silent area, turned it on, and started getting faint deep signals. So it can be useful in certain situations." You may have to adjust the gain if you boost the TX but it all just depends on the situation.

Thanks for the reply and info. Im like you Steve in regards to knobs vs menus. But after reading the field manual a couple times it looks to me as tho the menu is easy to work with plus you can make on the fly adjustments like you can with a control knob. Im just a coin shooter but will relic hunt if I have the chance,no gold down here in Louisiana. I could have a DFX or any machine of that type, if I wanted,they just never appealed to me. I was having a bit of a fever for an E Trac but I held out. I really like what Ive read so far on the Vision. I hope some of the guys gets em real quick so we can get some good in field reports. Maybe some of the testers can chime in and tell us what they have learned thus far. Im really interested in how it handles masking more than depth.

I wonder how the 3 feqs. having their differing results displayed simultaneously will do in terms of seeing where masking is taking place. I'm pretty sure that improving the ability to see around if not through ferrous masking is the biggest potential for recovering previously undetected goodies.

Also - Im curious to see what the sunlight vizability of the screen is like.

Carl was right on the money with the coils and I have used the Sunray DX-1 pinpoiner as well with no problems. I don't seem to get quite the depth that I had on the DFX, but it does work. I have not tried it with the TX boost on though. I will have to give that a try and report back to you.
 
TX boost could be called that, but so could raising the sensitivity without the boost.
