Hi everyone. I used to post a few things on this forum a little over a year ago under "Jeff". I just got back home from a year in Iraq with the Army and see there are some other Jeff's out there, so I just went ahead and opened a new profile. Besides, I couldn't even remember old password. Since getting back stateside, I have noticed some products that I'm interested in buying for my MXT, but I have really been out of the loop and need a little help here. I'm sure you all have covered this extensively already, but if you all could entertain me on a couple of questions, I would really appreciate it:
1. I'm looking at buying some additional coils for my MXT. I'm looking at the 5" excellerator for trashier areas. Is this a good coil for working trash areas, or is there something else I should be looking at? I only plan to buy one smaller coil for trashy areas and want to get the right one.
2. I am also looking at a 14" excellerator to get more depth. I saw it advertised as doubling my depth. I find that a little hard to believe, but I was wondering how much more depth will the 14" excellerator give me over the stock 9.5 coil, and if that would be a better buy than the White's DD 1400 Widescan. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It is also my understanding that there is already a "second generation" 14" excellerator out there. Has anyone used the second generation and is it better than the first generation? Thanks again for the help and happy hunting.

Jeff in CO. First I'd like to say thank you for your service to our country. You guys and gals are the best!!! You're doing a helluva great job.
The only other coil I have for my MXT is the Whites 5.3 Eclipse. Most of the soil mineralization I've been hunting in registers in the 60's to mid 70's. It's done a pretty good job for me so far. But without having the Excellerator to compare it with I just don't know if I'm missing anything.
But! If I knew then what I know now I would have bought the 5" Excellerator. I think. Maybe.??? I've read nothing but good things about it. I've also read about a new 8" Excellerator that sounds pretty good too.
If you haven't already done so go to the search area of this forum and type in "coils" and you'll bring up alot of posts on the subject.
I read them over and over because I'd like to get another coil but can't decide on which one. I can only afford one more coil so I need to make the right choice. It's a tough decision. Good luck and happy hunting.

I have had both of the 14 inch coils--The only difference I saw here (Ground is over 80 here) is I thought the Whites was slightly easier to Pinpoint--Either 1 will give you around (2) in extra depth--I just bought the EX 8 in And I think it is great---For trash that is the 1 I would get---If you wont one for very very trashy sites then Either of the smaller loops is SLIGHTLY better---I just feel the 8 In. is a (2) in (1) loop Goes as deep as I expect out of a coil that size---I would say if you are only buying (one) coil that should be the one--Either 1 of the 14 in 0r the 18 for deep targets--You should be in good shape to handle the extra wt. of them

Hi Jeff, caint say much on the 14 dd coil dont have one but i own a 6x10 dd and use that 90% of the time ,the thing is great. Soil is mustly in the 70 to 80s here in Oregon. as far as a small coil I have a 5.3 and a 3x6dd coil for trashy areas, and find that the 5.3 goes deeper than the 3x6 . But the 3x6 isalates the target better for me so i use that one more in trashy areas.Hope that helps some.Rick...

Thanks for the info (and the comments) guys. I guess I'll think it over a bit before I get the larger coil. Sounds like I can't go wrong with the smaller coils for the trashy areas. Thanks again.

Butch,
As a matter of fact I am in the Springs. I live in Colorado Center. It is off Powers just south of the airport. What part of the Springs are you in? Maybe we can get together sometime and do a little treasure hunting. My e-mail is kunfess2me@aol.com.

Jeff, the 14" will not double your depth in CO. , the tests were done here in FL where we have no mineralization thus the greater depth.
