I have a MXT detector with the standard 950 coil.I am also getting a new 10X6 Eclipse DD Eliptical coil of ebay next week.Do you think it will work better than the standard 950. I live in the UK. Many Thanks.

Some people using the MXT, Run the 6x10 all the time and do great with it. I myself have not tryed it yet, But am thinking of getting one. Good Luck.

to about the middle of Feb. or so and forward to read some very informative posts by 'Monte' (and others) regarding a few various coils for the MXT.
Different areas, ground etc. will dictate the need for different coil(s). I think reading those posts will give you a good feel of what you're hoping to find in the way of coil(s).

... a lot has been said regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the various coil types. Noting that your email server address indicates that you are in the UK, then those comments by myself and others regarding suitable coils for highly mineralized ground really don't apply in your case. Personally, I use the 10x6 DD about 80% of the time, and the 6x4 DD most of the remainder. But then again, I hunt very trashy sites in highly mineralized soil, so need good target separation, good iron rejection, and enhanced ability to cope with mineralized soil. For your use, any of the DD coils would give somewhat better iron rejection, and better target separation, a "plus" for you if you search iron-infested sites, such as long-used farmland. However, unless those fields has seen substantial use of modern chemical fertilizers, then they shouldn't be very "mineralized" in the typical sense, and thus DD coils won't give much benefit over the concentric coils in terms of overal depth. If your sites are trashy, and NON-mineralized, then the 5.3 concentric, with gain "maxed out," might be a good choice for you. If you go to the White's UK website, folks like Toddy and "Coenwulf" will be better able to offer you more localized advice. Hope this help; HH ("happy hunting") Jim

I been talking to a guy that i am sure reads these fourms, so he will see this.
How many use the 6X10 double D coil and what do you think of the depth of this coil compared to the stock coil.
My wife and me use this coil like Jim does 80-90% of the time and the 4X6 the other times as the stock coil just sits on the shelf. I find the 6X10 has great depth, gets into places other cant and feels so good on the end of the shaft. For the small coil many like the 5.3, but I havent use one as the 4X6 works so good for me to change and wonder on those that have them both what they think of the 2 coils.
Thanks
Rick

simply due to the feel' or balance. Personally, I am not partial to either of the coils, although I like the 950 the best of the two.
In factory coils my favorite overall is the 5.3 Eclipse. Best balance and very ample depth of detection compare with the stock 950 and 6x10-DD. Great in trashy sites and hot on small targets.
If I was to choose one factory coil to use all the time it would be the 5.3 Eclipse which is a 6

Got them both myself. I use the 6X10 almost all the time, except when switching to the 4X6. Had a 5.3 but sold it. The 5.3 was a great little coil, but I found the 4X6 would let me get in places that the 5.3 wouldn't.

Not for me, pinpoint is great compared to some others, try using some water units without pinpoint mode, then you'll love the dd pinpoint.
