Coils x5 / 8x6

Just wondering if anybody out there has tried both coils the x5" and the 8x6" coil on the E-Trac. I have the x5" and was wondering if the 8x6 would be a step up or down?

I have both coils and I must say I like both of them as they serve a purpose in trashy areas ! But your question is you want to know if one out performs the other. Well, the sunray X5 is very hard to beat and if you are looking for another small coil then the 6x8 is a winner, however if you really want a new coil then I would be stepping up to the 13 inch Ultimate coil ,as this is a game changer in depth and separation ! JMO

Thinks for the reply, I was kind of looking at the 6x8 as a replacement for the 5".

I will give some thought to that 13" Ultimate. I had one of those for my F75 and it seemed like a nice running coil but it didn't seem to improve on my finds.

You are talking about three different size coils here (X-5 small coil, SEF 6X8 medium size & 13" Ultimate large size)--depends what you are trying to accomplish.---I have owned/used them all and if I were considering a choice between the X-5 & 6X8---it would be neither.---I would choose the Sunray X-8.-------The 13" Ultimate coil is a great coil but you (are hopfully) using it in a different type hunt situation.

The stock 8" minelab fbs coil is actually 7.25" and is something you should consider. Its a good deal deeper than the X5 and can work just as well in trashy areas as it too. The downside is its a little on the heavy side but you can lighten it abit by removing the coil cover....and they can be had cheap...

So far the 8" ones I found new come with the lower shaft which would be nice to have but that puts the price way up there. Maybe I can start watching for one used to come up for sale or trade.

I have the Sunday x8 and the 5.5 x 9 the nel sharpshooter. I leave the Sunday on most of the time??

Ron I have a 6x8 SEF it stays on my Etrac 90% of the time. I also have the 6" SEF Eq2 coil and I use it in really trashy spots. The Pro coil seldom sees any use.

Well the 6x8 sounds like a good option. Just wondering if somebody out there could do a quick air test with it on a silver dime? If so run the machine with manual sensitivity at 27 or higher, that will give me some idea where in comes in depth wise compared to my 2 coils.

Also while trying to locate a 6x8 I found a 5x10, any thoughts on that coil, new I think it was about $10 more? I have another detector with a box 5x10 DD coil and I like that size really well. But it kind took away the need for 5" round that I have.

If I settle on one I will contact some the forum dealers and see if I can talk them into good deal.

I like Sunday to!-----Actually, the Sunray X-8 has found me more silver than the 11" stock coil.----In my ground it is only 1" shy of what the stock coil will detect--a nice coil.---Might be a little hard to locate a good used one though.

One of my buddies gave the 5x10 a try and he didn't seem to impressed by it Ron. He likes the 6x8 better.

Ron on manual sensitivity of 27 a barber dime air test at 10-1/2" . That's with the 6x8 SEF.

WOW, thanks 88junior (Morgan) for that air test number, that tells me a lot. That 6x8 is just 1/2" less than the stock 11" coil, which was 11" on a silver dime. Also it is about 2" deeper than the x5, which air tested on a silver dime at 8.5".

Now that is what air testing is good for.

Maybe I can drop a few hints for Christmas, like I really, really need this coil.

Richard at Backwoods and I are closing the deal on a new 6x8 SEF coil, I am just waiting on payment instructions from him.

Big thanks for that air test you done for me, that is what iced the cake to make up my mind to buy.

Done deal on the 6x8 SEF, it is on the way.

Now for down the road, I spotted the little Detech 4.5" x 7" SEF, anybody out there tried it.? I would love to see an air test number on it with a silver dime target and the machine set to manual sensitivity 27.

I like the size of that little coil over the small round coils, just for a little more ground coverage and still should have good target separation.

Ron Keith Southern liked that little coil in the iron infested sites he hunts. I tried one and I liked the smaller round DD'S better. Different strokes for different folks comes to mind.

I have both, but the SEF 6x8 is the primary coil for trashy sites that are relatively clear of brush...the X5 is used in the brushy areas.

Having both is like having a Phillips and a regular screwdriver in the toolbox.
