Coils Wot Vs Sunray s12

Hello there, I was wondering about coils...I have a Sov XS2 pro with a 8 inch Sunray Intruder coil and seem only to get about 8 inches in depth. I was out with a friend who was using a Explorer XS with a 10 inch coil and he was getting 12-13 inches on average. It was frustrating because I tried a few of his signals and I could only pick up maybe 10% of his deep signals...The result being he was pulling up a few colonial coins and I found zero colonials. Now the week before I did quite well and found many things but not past the 8 inch mark, I did go home with 8 silvers, but how can I achieve the 12-13 inch mark using the Sov XS2??? Which coil is best for the depth, and what size should I get?? The Wot coil or the Sunray s12 coil or are there any other suggestions, do I have to upgrade to an Explorer to get that depth?, Any help or advice would be welcome to this frustrated detectorist...Thanks and HH...Reg.

The Explorer will get more depth plus like you say it was with a 10 inch coil. The S8 you have should get more than 8 inches of depth as I have seen 10+ with mine when I had it. These are not lock on signals, but ones the tones will change letting you know there is a good positive target under the coil. I was also running my sensitivity hotter too and was runing it in the 9 o'clock postion and going slow.
Now the S 12 of SunRays I have used my deepest was a barber quarter at 13 inches, but it too was a very weak signal I had to go very slow to hear and the threshold just changed a little to let me know it too was a positive signal. I think this is why many dont see the deep coins as the swing the coil too fast and think the signal will be a lock on the meter and the tones, but these are the ones that just trying to climb if you wiggle the coil just right.
I had a WOT for a while and it too is a great coil, but it was just a little too big for my hunting of parks, ballfeild and schools.
The Explorer in the right hand is deadly as we are seeing on depth, but if not set right for the conditons a Sovereign will beat it with no problem on ID and depth. I have seen where I could not pick up a dime on top of the ground with the Explorer unless the coil touched it, but never seen that with the Sovereign no matter how it was set, unless it was turned off.

Thanks Rick for the info, I was wondering if it was me or the coils....

I took my Excaliber out to beach and got very few signals to dig and I brought the explorer xs also and was amazed at all the targets I was getting...both have the 7.5 coil on it...I can only go to 12 O'clock(sensativity) with the Excaliber before falsing and I can go to 26 or better with the explorer...whats up with that? More frequencies maybe? They ought to make a water proof Explorer...Now I would pounce on that..:bouncy
