coils work

Well any coil work on any machine or only the ones made by that company 4 there machines

Essentially coils made by the same manufacturer for their models are the only ones that work. There are a few exceptions to this, but for the most part you need to have the proper coil that's built to work by the same company and not all coils by that company will necessarily work on all models due to different frequencies, plug configurations etc.

Most coils are model specific rather brand specific, can you give us an example, like what detector is in question? One example is White's makes at least four lines of coils for their detectors and there are several other companies that make coils compatible to some of the White's detectors as well.

I have whites MXD and minelab coils

Will not work, but the last time I counted, there were about 27 coils that will work with the MXT on the market between White's, Kellyco and Jimmy Sierra.
