Coils for the Silver Umax

Sven

Well-known member
Just picked up a Silver Umax with stock brown donut coil and a 5.75.

Wondering if there is a performance gain with the 8x9 vs. the donut coil?

Performance is generally the same between the 8" brown and the 8x9" coils but the 8" performs a little better than the 8x9 in trashy areas... The 5.75 is great in Trashy areas as well..... The Super 7" Troy coil is compatable with all 5 pin umax units and is comparable to the 5.75 in trashy areas. The 10x12 Concentric coil isn't worth the extra weight as far as I'm concerned. it is more useful to me as a stand for whatever unit it's mounted to. lol Just my opinion but others may have different ideas on the 10x12.... to me it's equal to the much lighter 8x9 and I see no need to add weight to an already lightweight detector to gain performance that you'll get with a lighter 8x9". I'd like to read others opinions as well....

I'll take you up on your offer regarding 10x12 coil and see what happens...

Sven, you have the best coils for the Silver

I just came back to it. I agree it unbalances the machine. Way too heavy. I also agree it can be hard to get good depth unless it is balanced to the machine & the area you hunt. Thats why having an external GB adjustor helped turn this into my #1 coil.

I have the 5.75 on my Troy X2 now. The 9" coil is very light & very good. I thought it would match the 10x12 as in air testing it ran side by side.

But in the dirt-the real world-the big coil just pops 'em out as I said in a ppost below. I have a tough coin garden & it is the only coil to prominently call out the targets. not a whisper or a barely there signal-But very distinctive dif 'em up type signals. The 9" on the Troy X2 can get them all but not as solid hits by far.
Here is todays haul from the same soccer field. The necklace is in 3 pieces . If those were real ???Maybe I'll encrust my detector...Also found a gold coin!-A 10 cent Euro...Just gold colored but hey never seen one before so thats cool...
Cheers!
