Coils for the Classic II SL

... all the 6.59khz coils will work. That is, the various 4.5," 6," 8", 9.5," and the equivalent Excelerator coils.

I had been told that just because they were 6.59khz did not mean they would work without tweaking the circuits inside the detector???

HH,
I've heard that, too, and then in the same paragraph that it isn't of major concern.

The pre-"Blue Max" series of coils. They are a bit difficult to find. White's has used the 6.592/6.59/6.6 kHz units for many years, but the frequency isn't the only thing related to soil compatibility. You can have the Classic II modified so that it will accept all the more recent BlueMax series of coils, which includes those used on the:

Classic III Plus
Classic III SL
Classic ID
Classic IDX
IDX Pro
Quantum II
Quantum XT
QXT Pro
Eagle II
Eagle II SL
5900 Di Pro SL
6000 Di Pro SL
6000 Pro XL
XL Pro
Silver Eagle
Eagle Spectrum
XLT
and a couple I missed.

They might be labels BlueMax, Black Max, ProScan, Royal, and a few others. Honestly, I'd suggest just using the Classic II with the stock 8" coil. When you can afford additional coils or a detector upgrade, then move to a Classic ID, IDX Pro, or an up-line model. My older brother has a Classic II w/8" and a good friend in Utah uses a Classic II w/8" I sold her a few years ago, and she does well with it. They work fine.
