coils for beach?:ausflag:

Blowfly,
I am not familiar with a 5 by 10. For my Cibola I have the standard 9 by 8 and a 12 x 10 widescan. On the beach (when I used the Cibola there) I use the coil that covers the most ground, the 12 x 10.
Good luck!

I'd try both being sure I had the double D along in case I needed it to deal with black sand or other mineralization.

hey barberbill,i'm just curious?i have a minelab xt50 with a5"by10"dd hf coil it's not deep coil, but i have found it to be a thorough coil in it's sweeping action.however it tends to feel heavy after awhile and i have to change hands. i'm a right hander and don't dig well with my left hand.so i got to wondering whether anybody had fitted a dd coil to a vaquero, with good or bad results.like always i just had to ask? hh,see ya! blowfly

The first thing to consider, imho, is the way you search or/and sweep .

If you are meticulous, and slow in your search, then a concentric will be better, and go a little (5to10%) deeper than the DD version of the same size.(but only on a very short portion of their surface : their detection pattern becomes tighter the deeper they reach.

If, on the contrary, you search fast and sweep fast, you might get better results with a DD coil, cause their detection pattern is wider for the whole depth range.

DD coils tend to be less 'chatty" than concentric ones in high mineralised environment.

Hope this helps

i'm sorry gentlemen,i got it wrong.on the tesoro site you call the dd hf coil a widescan, while on another site they just refer to them as a5"by10"dd hf .i was wondering why no one was kinda answering my question.but after reading other posts on the site i realised my question had been asked before by other people and it would tend to get tedious for those that want to help people with their questions.hh,blowfly

Several questions about the beach.Fresh water or salt..If the latter are you getting into the wet sand area. Are there black sand areas? .How is the Vaquero doing? I have a friend in Oz who has a Minelab, and does occasional nugget hunting..Would be getting too warm for that I suspect. Cordially Nad

Blowfly check ya messages mate , I made the mistake of buyin a concentric , go with a Widescan here in Australia theres good reason why the magority of aussies use DD's
