coils and issues.....

ive been comparing a couple coils over last few days...the whites d2 10" DD and the sef 10x12 coil. the sef runs quiet and smooth and goes very deep..the whites d2 was really noisey almost to where its unusable., however i did find something out on the whites.the plug has a burr on the threaded ring that tightens down the plug..so i twisted the threaded nut tight but plug was still loose. if you wiggle the wire the coil would go nuts. i am not sure it will totally fix problem with noisey chattering coil but tomorrow we will see, but at least its tight now.

Hello Bill,
I use the 10"DD a lot and I run the gain wide open (+3) and there is some chatter, but not bad. It runs very deep that way and I can run it all day. I started running it this way after I air tested a buckle at 22 inches. I don't think it's that deep in the ground but it's really deep. Still sensitive too. Hope this helps. John

I bet White's will gladly replace your defective coil.......

thanks guys.the coil didnt seem to chatter like it did since i repaired the plug..maybe i should just send it in.. i was wondering what the heck was going on lol out at my brothers house in the country on 10 acres it chattered like crazy and drove my nuts....while using coil holding it at waist level and swinging it left to right the screen would be going nuts showing iron all the way up to hi silver range and back. my first thought was ...is there a cell phone tower around here? thats when i tried my sef and it was so quiet i had to wave shovel over it once in a while just to be sure its working. 6x10 is also very quiet. so today after its done raining i will go out and see how it does in the yard. if it fails i will send it in.
