Coils again

Has any one compared the standard 9" 7.5kHz concentric coil against the 9" 7.5kHz DD coil. For all purpose use would the DD coil be any better than the concentric. The more I think about coils the more lost I become. Thanks in advance for any replies.

the 9in concentric coil probably won't get used again until I trade or sell the X-Terra. On my hunt sites here in eastern Indiana, the 10in DD has more depth and better target separation than the stock coil. I expected the improvement in target separation but not the increase in depth. So far I haven't found any sites where the stock coil worked better than the 10in DD. Don't get me wrong, I thought the stock coil worked fine for a 9in coil but most of my hunt sites are kinda trashy to use a 9in concentric coil.

Thanks for the reply Phil. This is the sort of direct info I need from those with more experience than me and those who have experienced both coils.

If you could see the shape of the signal transmitted into the ground from a concentic coil. It would look much like a cone or funnel. It would start out basically the width of your coil, 9", but 5" down it would be approximatly 3 to 4" in width. And continue to decrease in width the farther down it went.
On the other hand. The 9" DD coils signal will still be aprox. 9" wide at a depth of 5". So it effectivly covers more area down where it counts.
Plus, from my understanding, the DD coil is less effected by ground minerals. HH
