I need a little advice, I have a SE with the stock coil and it does fine, but most of the places I hunt are real trashy.I have read the post and reviews on many coils and get different views. So I'm at a lost. wich one will work for me. I do not have a lot of mineralized ground but have a lot of iron here in alabama. I need some separation and see through capability.thanks four any help.

hello jshock you can buy second hand coil in this forum in sales or wanted or ebay and in most metal detectors shops. to see through iron you have to use as little as possible discrimination or switch from conductive sound to ferrous and use explorer without discrimination. if you want small coil, 8size is ok. you can choose form minelab original 8 cheapest and enough ok.-price used from 60-100$ sunray more expensive but I never tested dont have any opinion and sef 8x6 its more sensitive than minelab 8 and more expensive from 120$ and up for used. good luck Stasys

I'm trying to decide between the 8 in.. Or the 4.5x7 both are pricy, but I think I'm going to need one.

I didnt have any problems with the stock coil like some did.... but i have to say just going to the SEF 10X12 made a huge difference for me. Stasys has the ticket for hunting those areas thou.... you may have to adjust your hunting settings. If i hit an area i find productive i hit it several time with different settings or tactics. If i find a seated coin.... look out im digging a lot of trash to get it out of the way. You loose a lot of depth from the coil desensitizing on trash with high disc. and recovery from a tone seems faster than from a null. Also, for some reason in Ferr the recovery seems quicker off iron. TID isnt as good thou. Let us know how it works for you.
