Quick question, which coil would you take as a second coil? the eclipse 8x14 dd coil or the excelerator 14"dd. would like to hear what you think i mostly coin and jewelry hunt but sometimes relic let me know what you think

Over the stock coil it would be the 6X9 DD coil of Whites. Most people that hunt park, ballfeild and school yard find that the stock coil is too big and the smaller coil will work better. Now if you are beach hunting or place that targets are far a few between then the bigger coil would be what you need. Now if that is the case i would think the 8X14 Eclipse would be my choice.

I've had to send back both the 12.5 and 14" Excelerator, because they didn't work for me and the conditions that I detect in. I received the 14"DD DeepScan last week and put it through the paces yesterday. It is absolutely awesome. Found this nice EdwardIII penny on one of my well hunted fields. Very stable and extremely sensitive to smaller items. So, after trying 3 different upgrade coils, I am finally happy with the 14"DD. Good Luck.

Odd-- I ran the 12.5" ExCelerator hot -in the 2-3+ range with the threshold very minimal and was hiting on metal with less mass than a BB at 4 to 8 inches without a lot of noise. But it was still heavier than I wanted so have switched to a BigFoot for my next UK foray near Colchester. Were you in relic as required? I prefer trigger forward.

Rick,
I haven't tried the whites coil but still use the 14 inch excellerator. Personally I don't see a reason to try the whites. Compared to the stock coil the 14 inch excellerator has better coverage , runs smoother, has better separation and gets a solid 3-4 inches deeper than the stock coil. Figured I could use the extra money for something I really need. I have seen on hear where the whites coil has had issues, and yes some of the excellrators have also, And there are some on here that won't put faith into anything but brand name replacement coils, to each his own but for me the 5 and 14 inch excellerators are awesome. As far as being sensitve to small items I have found BB's out in my front yard with the 14 inch excellerator. In the dirt I have dug 9-10 inch dimes, A measured depth (not the depth on the ID meter) And at the beaches in the sand the depth is crazy. I have used the big coil at several old homes sites in heavy trash and the separtion of the big coil still puts the stock to shame and is second to only the little 5 inch excellerator.

I have had both coils--Both are very good--I think the eclipse Pin points a (very)litle easier--Both go about the same for depth--The only problem I had with pinpointing was with coins under 2 inches on both coils--For me what I did find that worked was to raise the loop 6 inches or so--Pinpoint-Then come straight down--Find the loudest signal and dig---Deathwind1

To be blunt, the two Excelerator's i've had have been really bad news. Yes I've been in relic mode with both. I've spoken extensively with Kellyco on both. Both have been very very unstable, so maybe I've been unlucky enough to have two bad coils. It does happen with Excelerators as we are all aware. That's why I put in my last post that they didn't work for my or the conditions that I detect in. Maybe when they seed the fields with finds over near Colchester, they demineralize the soil??? Excelerators are known as Detech over here, and they are really not too popular at all. I gave them the benefit of the doubt twice based on the fact that there are folks on the forum here that like them but that was twice too many times....You guys make it sound like like you are the only ones who really know how to detect, have some esoteric knowledge, and if someone else doesn't like something you like then they must be using the detector in the wrong mode I think we can agree to disagree on certain issues without putting each other down.

Sorry about my last post. I usually don't get into it that much. I am over here in England, so everytime I've dealt with Kellyco about Excelerators, the shipping time has taken forever so it's a sore subject for me. Don't get me wrong, the customer service is great, it's just a long distance to be doing business. I've been using Whites machines for over 15 years, so I am not a newbie. I live and breathe this hobby and I may very well have gotten 2 bad coils. I've given both coils a big chance. Trust me, I wanted the Excelerators to work for me more than anyone. I do love the 5" Excelerator and use it often in stubble fields. I also apologize for the seeded field comment. That is none of my business.

Hi - any chance that you would know the weight of the 12.5" and 14 " Excelerator coils?
thanks
John

Apology accepted...I was wondering what I did.
I'd try the the White's 14, but it's too heavy for my arm too--at least for now.
I'll leave it to Coenwolf to bad mouth the hunts there

I'll take a round coil over an elliptic anyday. The only reason Wite's makes elliptical coils for the DFX/MXT is because they already had the molds available from their Goldmaster line of Detectors and it was obviously cheaper to make use of those than go thu the expense of developing new ones.
Now for the MXT and its gold hunting application, the elliptics are nice because the shape allows you to poke the coil into areas where it would be hard to get a round coil into and also allows you to keep the coil closer to the ground in the rocky areas which is very important to hear those faint nugget signals.
It seems that White's missed the boat when the MXT took off as a general purpose detector. It even seems to be a better seller than the DFX so why stick us with elliptical "nugget" coils??? They should have spent the money and made us round coils for these machines! Better signal response on coins and relics is what we all want and the round coils just do it better.
