Coil Wire Jacket 70/705 Coils

Getting ready to head out with the trusty 70 today and found the coil wire outer jacket cracking and separated from the wires inside! Got it fixed by wrapping with electrical tape. 18.75 DD still works. Anyone else have this happen? Old Longhair?

I’ve heard it happening on coils many times. I remember hearing it happening on minelabs and CZs a lot but on the other brands as well. I’m not saying they’re more prone to it but I remember more of those reports.

To be fair, I think the coil is my oldest 10.5DD. The other one I have has a newer sticker and the cable looks to be a rubber type coating. Think the old one is at least a 2008 coil.

I've heard of such things, but I've personally never had it happen to a Minelab factory coil.
I did have it happen to an SEF coil that I have for my Explorer, and I did the same as you......electrical tape. Never had a problem with it, but it also never goes in the water.

Some of the coils for the Sovereign had this issue a while back.
From what I recall, Minelab started using a different type of cable covering that was not U.V. resistant.
This covering started cracking pretty fast.
I have not had any issues with any of my coils so far and they are pretty old now.
