Coil weight

John(Tx)

New member
Is the weight between the 10.5"DD coil and the 5x10"DD coil about the same? Seems like the 5x10 would be easier to swing. Thanks, John

John---There's quit a bit of difference in weight between those two coils.----10 1/2 DD-24oz----5X10 DD-14oz.----If you don't think that's much difference--try swingin 'em for awhile. ha---Seriously-the 10 1/2 is a good coil and no doubt goes deeper (a lot of people really like it), but it is considerably heavier. If weight is not an issue to you, well---------

I have been using the 10.5 dd hf coil for the past month. Mainly because I can cover the sand volleyball courts faster. Even at #14 sensitivity I was digging coins at 8 inches in the sand. I don't know how deep this thing can go! Anyway I put the stock coil on it the other night and what a difference! I know I'm not covering the ground as good but it feels better on my arm. I think I will hold the 10.5 dd hf coil for the beach and prospecting open areas. But it's a great coil to have. I have the 6 inch hf dd coil and that thing is a killer ! I have dug targets easily at 7 inches with it. Also you can cover some ground being a dd coil. Plus it feels like a feather.

but since I have a bad shoulder, I'm thinking about getting the 5x10 DD, you're right, that's a big difference in weight. I like the depth I get with the 10.5 but my shoulder is not to crazy about it. Thanks for the reply. John

I bought one of those bungee cord things for when I use the 10.5 DD. Really takes the weight off.

There's a considerable difference between these two since one is the lightest and the other is the heaviest in the available set of coils so far.

The 6" feels almost weightless. It's tiny but packs a punch & is good for separation in trashy areas... very sensitive. The 10.5 has good depth and coverage for people wanting to scan large areas. You can use this coil for scanning a beach or a large park efficiently. But quite a few owners have complained here about the weight being excessive, causing their detector to become "front heavy". I find it feels somewhat heavy myself (I've tried this coil twice) and it does stress the swinging arm considerably when you've been using it for an hour. Both coils are favored by coin hunters for their uses.

Even with the 10.5 coil on it's still lighter than most of the competition's pro models. But I would trade the 70 tomorrow for the new Xterra 90 that weighs in at 2 pounds. If there was such a model!
