mattw, a concentric coil has a "v" or cone shaped detection pattern where a widescan coil is hot down the middle of the coil and has the same detection pattern from the front to the back of the coil. a concentric coil usually gives better depth and the widescan is used more in mineralized ground. the widescan coil seems to like bottlecaps and trash a little more than the concentric coils also. hope this helps you............roger
