coil testing today 6x10 & stock 9.5

tested my 6x 10 DD eclips on my M-6 today put a dime on the ground placed 2x4s on the ground dime at the side 6x10 good strong signals to 5" then fades to 6.5" centering at 5" center in the center not off the tip you will be looking a long time for the target center in the center of the coil , easy to swing good coverage ,,,,, Now to the stock coil i wish they would give us a choice when we buy the detector the stock coil is a piece of junk in my opinion it only has a 3.5" coverage hole in the middle so the cover one lineal foot i have to swing this heavy albatross 4 times as far as depth it gets 6" after that it fades fast im so tempted to drop it in the trash the 5.3 is just as good in fact better just as much coverage just as much depth and exelent on pinpointing i would rather have had 50.00$ off the price of the detector and but the real coils than have a land fill item thats the way i see it i do like the 4x 6 even thou it gets 4.5" solid depth i just like it its light as a feather i can swing all day it gets as much coverage as the 9.5 someone may think the 9.5 gets 9.5" every sweep not so it only gets whats in the donut hole so the 4x6 is getting as good on ground coverage as the stock bad joke by whites whith theise stock coils

Gunnar:
Wow..so not like you for loosing your cool. Are you just frustrated and maybe swinging to fast, or concentrating on the wrong thing.
Maybe if you could go back to the basics and swing low and slow for awhile it would help. I hate seeing you so upset. I will have one of those 6x10's and a M6 in a few days.I will try my luck and maybe we can figure out what the darn things supposed to do and how it reacts under different hunting conditions
and different areas. Please post your findings so I can read all before next week. I was hoping for great things from that coil and machine.I don't know what to say about the 9.5" coil. Mine covers just about all the coil area on the bottom.True not the full 9.5 but most of it.Maybe a trip back to whites it sounds like it's a little off.Take a deep breath. I can say this..I have always had better luck with pinpoint on a DD off the front edge, or rear edge than the center. In fact it's much easier for me pinpointing off the toe end than trying for center and all the xing you have to do. A little practice and it's faster, and more accurate or at least for me it is.I use the 9.5 coil in ball fields on my XLt and it does not seem to have any problems with coverage. The double DD coil I just get a target back off a little, move forward, just get the signal, and dig where it starts beeping. I hit the target most of the time doing this and it's a lot faster for me. The target is usually
off to the left of center and back about 1 1/2 inches under front edge of coil.Since the whole coil is hot from front to back down the center it seems easier doing it that way. Give it a try and let me know how that works for you.

Until recently I had been using a Tesoro Cibola and I really liked how it pinpointed. Now I have an MXT and its taking some getting used to pinpointing with it. I just got an 8" dd coil and based on what you're saying I may just like it a little better than the stock coil, especially since relic hunting is most of what I do. While hunting house sites it really helps to have a coil that still gets good depth, but can seperate targets a little better, so I have high hopes for this dd coil.

elton i found that to be tru on targets at 0" --2" center off the tip but on the deeper ones its moor in the center my tone I,D does better but ya its a great coil the 6x10 you will love it im just bothered whith the stock coil i wish i had a choice over it when buying the detector now that im learning moor geve me the shipping i will send the 9.5 to u its clutering up my house im not to mad thou just feel like i was scammed kinda forced into buying an extra coil you know sell someone a junker coil knowing they will want a better one and increase your sales bothers me like selling me a car whith tires that only last 100 miles and charging the price of better ones so i have to buy new tires you know or i will sell you a saw whith a plastick blade i know you will be buying a steel one soon from me

Yea I hear what you are saying...... It's getting a little difficult knowing what you need with all these detectors lately. I favor the 350 snooper coil on my XLT 5.3 next and the 8 Inch for small fields..But I do use and like the 9,5 for big base ball fields ..It gets deep and finds most of the stuff I am looking for...RINGS, Coins, and Silver if it's buried deep or brought in with the fill dirt..You better hang on with the 9.5 if you sell the unit someone will want that coil just because it comes with the machine stock..If you do decide it's gone of course I will pay all costs as you ask.But hold off for a litle while and when you rethink it after calming down a little you might be glad you kept it. I have a Jimmy Sierra 15" coil and I never use it..In fact don't have any place I would want to use it. Heck like you I would be delighted to trade it. I would take a pinpointer probe or something if someone could use this monster. It's just sitting here going to waste
Feels like a ton on your machine and in fact I can not imagine any place I could ever use it. LOL Oh well you know what our other halves say"Men and Boys the only difference is the price of our toys"...So keep us posted, find some great things and have a nice weekend.

Gunnar I don't know what kind of soil you have but the 9.5 is a good coil in good ground. For one thing in good ground it is deeper than the 6x10. Based on Jeff Foster's method of measuring the ground my soil is a 7. He says his tests show the 9.5 will go deeper and ID more solid up to a 4. I use the Whites 6x10 and 9.5 and and both pinpoint perfect. I also have a 8" and 5" excelerator and pinpinting is not a problem either. Depending on the depth my 6x10 pinpoints right on the tip or just a little back of the tip. The 9.5 is dead on in the middle of the circle. Rob

The 5" isn't for depth it is for finding targets in the trashiest of spots. The 8" seems to be as deep as the 9.5 or very close. A 8" deep dime I have buried I read well with the 8", 9.5, and 6x10. I think the 9.5 reads right on for depth, the 8" is off by an inch and the 6x10 is off by 2". I use the 6x10 most of the time but here the 9.5 is deeper. If I'm hunting plowed fields I think the 9.5 works the best. Remember my ground is not highly mineralized. Rob

I would ask Monte about the excelerators, his ground isn't the best.

I got an 8" dd a couple of days ago and I agree with everything that's been said and my ground is moderately mineralized. My only problem with the 8" is how heavy it is, compared to the 9.5. It does seem to run quieter and gets about the same depth as the stock coil in our ground. I just ordered the 6 X 10 and expect I'll be using it a lot more for coin shooting and relic hunting in moderately trashy areas, but will use the stock coil for open plowed field hunting. I wish white's would develop a 9" DD or 10" DD coil (for the MXT/DFX) with a spider coil-like configuration to keep weight down, minimize noise and get the depth that the stock coil does. I've seen other companies with a stock coil like that. Why not White's? A 10" DD version would make a great all-round coil for the MXT.

Yes it would !!!!!!

Canewrap, Excelerator makes the 10"DD. I have tested it and it works better than the stock in highly mineralized soil. Pinpointing is not as sharp as the stock, but I use the SunRay DX-1 which solves a lot of pinpointing problems.

You're talking about the 10X14 right? I was thinking more like a spoked arrangement on a coil about 9 or 10" long X 7" or 8" wide. I've seen this on the F75. A spoked coil gives the coil more support, while reducing weight over a solid disk. Most of the larger DD coils I've seen look a bit flimsy to be banging around in the weeds, near an old homesite. Maybe this is not a practical idea for some reason I'm overlooking, but then that's why I made this statement, hoping someone would point out the error of my thinking.

No error in your thinking. Some guys don't like an open coil in weeds, stubble and brush because instead of sliding it catches. Rob

Canewrap, No, the 10" DD is a round open type coil. I went to Kellyco for a link and it was not there. Call Kellyco and ask for JW. He sent me one to test and I was impressed with it. Tell him I sent you, it might not be available yet, or out of stock.

Got a reply from White's today.

Dear Bill

Yes...this has been given considerable thought.

A big part of the problem is the stability required to run a
