coil sweep speed

I have a Prism III, why is it, when you don't give the coil a good sweep speed it will not respond to metals well?

How do you have it set up?

I can slow and tighten my sweeps with the Classic II for pin pointing, and have no trouble....The machine in general likes about a 2 foot per second sweep speed when I am hunting...The machine requires this motion for detection....

[size=large]and wonder if, perhaps, you're new to the hobby as well.

The Prizm is a motion-based Discriminator. Frequently, I encounter people with a new detector (and they are newer to the hobby as well) who are moving the search coil ever-so-slowly. Too slow for good performance. the Prizm's are slow-motion based discriminators and are at their best when you use a "comfortable" sweep speed. On a side-to-side sweep, making a straight line about 3'-4' in length, it should take about 1

What about other kinds of machines and their sweep speed. Example Tesoro's

Answering to some questions, I am a new at this and I am excited to learn. I am still learning the feel & sound of my Prism III. The only coins I have found is about 7 pennies, but most of those in my backyard, I haven't had the chance to go to some places and get real serious about some hunting. I know a number of places and getting ready for the chance. Learning the sound of the Prism on a good solid hit, I have had some false hits or maybe I just missed the prize. I will keep trying..........

You can also learn a lot from watching videos on YouTube.com ... Just go to the site and enter metal detecting in the search box... Might also try entering Prizm III in the search box...
