With factory pre-sets,, is changing from an 8" round to a 9x8 spider simply plug and play?
I can just ground balance differant coils with my EL Dorado but is a Silver that easy?
 
I think the sizes are close enough that you shouldn't have a problem. At least I haven't with the same scenario. If you were going to use the 8X9 exclusively, it might be worth having Tesoro tune the detector to it for the most efficiency. I've used coils from 4" to 10.5" without problems on my Silver Sabre
