Coil Suggestion

My wife asked me if I wanted a new coil for my detector for XMAS. As I already have the Sunray 5" and 8", I told her that I didn't think that I need another coil. Of course, then I got to thinking about the SEF coils. Any recommendations? Years ago when I had my DFX, I used the 14"DD coil and found that it was a good coil for coverage and the depth was much better than the stock coil (the negative was that it was heavy). I was wondering if the 15x12 SEF would be a good choice for someone that primarily hunts parks and like most of us on this forum, looking for something that will give additional depth. I would appreciate any comments for owners of ANY of the SEF coils - how do these coils compare to the stock coil on the ETRAC? Depth? Separation? Stability?

thanks.

Even Tho I have the 15 x 18 sef....I have not had it but just a week.
Kellyco has an excellent return policy (Minus Restocking fee). So I think I will be sending it back this week, and trading for the 12 x 15 sef.
I mentioned the reasons in my own ( 15 x 18 SEF Coil) Post.
You have a very considerate wife to even take the interest in you,and your hobby...HH

McNickle- Yeah, my wife's great... sometimes she will go with and just sit and read a book while I'm swinging the coil... I read your post and I tend to agree. I know the guys across the pond love those big coils but I'm not hunting a plowed field for Hammys.

The reviews I read on the 12x15 & 10x12 (from Joan Allen) tend to give the edge to the smaller coil but I can't see that you will get much more out of it than the stock coil on the ETrac. I may be wrong - that is why I'm asking my fellow forum members for suggestions and comments regarding any of the SEF coils.

I don't mean to press the issue but my wife is ready to buy or move on to something else.... Has anyone outside of McNickle used any of the SEF coils on their ETRAC or Explorers? If so, I would greatly appreciate your comments.

I know I think Bryce has talked about using this coil before. You could always sell it if you get it and dont like it.

I'm thinking about the SEF as well. Hurry up and buy one and let me know how you like it!!!!!! Just kidding. From what I can gather the SEF is the way to go.

I've used the 12x15 SEF on the E-trac and it is a great coil but I prefer the stock coil to it for park hunting deep coins.
I wouldn't think twice about choosing the SEF over the stock coil if I was relic hunting fields or something, although I did not notice a depth advantage in the parks for coins I'm sure in wide open ground with very few signals the SEF would have a depth advantage.
See my review on the SEF posted here http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,848154
