coil sounds off

garyp

New member
Third time out with my atpro and not having fun. Everywhere I hunt seems to have a lot of trash that wasn't there with my 505 bounty hunter, My iron audio sounds off even when holding the coil 4 ft off the ground.

When digging a target, if I just bump the coil detector goes nuts. If I hold it in the air and tap on it with my finger, it goes nuts. No jewelry on my hand or wrist. There MUST be something I don't know(which is alot). It does not seem to matter what settings I use.

Help, Help ???

Thanks, Gary

Try turning the sensativity down see if that works.

I took my ATP out today and experienced the same thing. I think there is some serious EMI going on. I finally got it to quieten down some but never got past all the noise. I really don't think its the ATP there is something going on in the atmosphere.

What mode are you running ? If running standard coins make sure your iron audio is off. Also might try reading up on the different modes and their settings

Just to be sure you have checked it, check the coil connection to the unit. If it is very loose that may cause problems.

somthing sounds bad here bumping coil was an old problem garrett fixed check connection to coil and control box be sure its tight also check under coil cover for dirt and clean this can cause falsing if you,ve been in water with dirt wil quickly get between coil and coil cover also check coil for cracks if it keeps up send it back to garrett i know this sucks but may be your only thing to do it,s early season get it fixed your conditions realy don,t sound like a good at pro these to me are very stable detectors can be a bit noisey running wide open pro zero and iron audieo on iron disk 30 to 35 but good sinals still sound out very good good luck to you

As has been said:
  • Ground balanced?
  • Iron audio off?
  • Iron discrim set around 35?
  • Sensitivity at around 8?
  • Checked batteries & coil connection (make sure the 'O' ring is fully seated before tightening the nut)?
  • Tried another location (could be underground power lines, electric fence, etc) ?
  • Tried the 4 frequencies?

If it's still acting up, give Garrett a call. They'll get you fixed up. Is it an early unit (serial # starting with 50..., bought before last June, no cam (twist) locks on the shaft, etc)? There were some issues with the early machines (coils in particular).

Hope it helps!
