Coil size for hunting around sports fields

New member
I haven't hunted around sports fields in our area and am going to start. Do those that do this primarily, hunt with the stock coil or use one of the 6" coils?

I typically start out with one of my larger coils first. If I find out's it's trashy then I'll drop down to a 6" coil.

Most sport fields have been or are well hunted......Save the 6" for around bleachers, picnic tables, sideline & bus stop benches. I'm a big fan of the HF DD elliptical for beach (dry sand) and parks.

I would be afraid that using a small coil in a large area would result in missed targets. Training yourself to overlap that small of a pattern in a huge area I think would be difficult. As mentioned though, if it were trashy, small would be better.
