i'm curious, when minelab manufacture a coil, where do the take their measurements from ?i have a hf dd 5" by 10" coil.wrong!! it's 5.5"by9.5".my way of thinking the inside wiring has to be smaller again or is it glued around the inside/outside wall of the coil to try and maintain it's detecting footprint. what started this of was i was comparing the size of my other detector's coils.compared to my tesoro vaquero standard coil which operates mainly at 14.5khz on coil [8.5"by9.5"outside measurements]8"by9"standard.the minelabs supposed to be longer.it still works great.this is just an observation.it made me wonder how they put these coils together. hh,see ya .blowfly:detecting:

The coils do not have a single loop of wire in them, depending on frequency, size, & shape there can be several hundred feet of wire in a coil.

Hmmm...Kind of like a piece of 2"x4" board.

Yes! But at least a 2x4 "used" to measure 2x4. I just think they rounded it up. Just like we were taught in school..
