Coil Sensitivity

I noticed something with my 8x9 coil on the Eldorado last night and am curious if anyone else had noticed the same thing. The coil will not pick (sound off) on a coin until it is approximately an inch or so inside the actual area of the coil. I had the discrimination set at
 
Interesting question! Truth is I have found mine to be sensitive out about an inch over diameter with sensitivity set aroud 8-10.
I have in trashy areas dropped sensitivity to 2-4 to moreless reduce the diameter.
Take it this was airtesting which can be decieving, especially in the house with tv.computer, fans etc running? Electrical interferrance can alter performance a great deal
 
It was an air test in the house but with the sensitivty turned down to about 7 and the all metal threashold was steady. I don
