Coil questions follow up:)

I just want to thank all of you who answered my post. I valued your advice so much so that I decided to purchase a 5''x8'' coil (actually my birthday is coming up and I hinted to my wife that the coil would be a "Great" idea; needless to say, we got on the Kelly co website and ordered it). I went back to the park, very trashy but quite old, and was amazed by the difference in locating targets. Within a few minutes being there I found plenty of clad, and also a 1918 Wheat Penny, which made my day. I know that for most of you, a find like this is routine, but beside my 1913 Barber dime and 1948 1/2 dollar Walking Liberty, not much has come my way of older coins lately. So, again, thanks all of you, and I can't wait to go back and use my new found toy again.

Congrats on your 5x8 purchase! Not sure if you've been reading my recent posts about the 5x8 coil, but it is a killer coil. I've gone back to areas in this particular park I hunt all the time with the 5x8 coil and find a lot of keepers near junk targets. I've noticed on really deep coins the numbers will be all over the place, but if the tone repeats both directions, chances are its a coin. The target separation is unbelievable! Just yesterday I was hunting a washed out area along this hillside. Shallow pulltabs were everywhere. Halfway thru my swing of mid-tones, I get a screaming high tone amongst all the mid-tones. I was able to isolate the target by doing the famous wiggle method and the target was a solid 84 and extremely shallow. I dug a shallow plug and to my surprise there was a 1946 silver Rosie staring at me about 1" deep. After I removed the coin I went back over the area and there were literally pulltabs surrounding this target. I've been over this area before at this particular angle with the 8x11 and I never heard it before.

You will never want to take the 5x8 coil off. I refuse to take it off. I have better days with the 5x8 than I do with the 8x11 and more consistently.

HH! :)
