coil question

Was wondering about garrett coils, when changing coils will the depth and id be different as in other detectors.Or will they read the same no big deal just wondering........Hope everyone has a great christmas....and happy hunting for the new year...kd

The depth can change, being the size of the coil
is generally proportional to the depth. But the ID
should stay the same. Or at least if you are using
a coil that matches the machine. Probably even if not..?
With the ace 250, it ID's the same no matter what coil
I have on it. But the depth and coverage area will change.
Naturally, the bigger 9x12 coil will detect deeper and
a bigger area than the small sniper coil. As some have
mentioned, the diameter of the coil is fairly close
to the depth it will do. Some variations I'm sure, but
it's semi close for gov work. IE: the 9x12 coil on my
250 will detect to a max of about 10-11 inches of I
remember right. Note the size vs depth.. Pretty close..
My 4.5 inch sniper coil will detect to about 5.5-6 inches.
It's a coil that slightly beats the diameter rule.
But like I say, they all ID the same. A zinc will ring as
a zinc no matter what coil is on the ace 250. I suspect
most all Garretts act the same. Can't say about other brands..
Don't have any to test.
