Coil question

archer

Member
I need to replace my CTX 11 (stock) coil. I was happy with the stock coil. Since I have to spend the money, I was wondering if there is a better all around coil on the market now that fills the stock coil slot?

I realize this is a somewhat subjective question, but knowledgeable opinions appreciated!

Subjective for sure
I bought both Minlab coils 17 and the 6
I find myself using the 17 most of the time , I feel I want that extra depth and ability to cover more ground.
There have been some trashy places I’ve used the 6 and it does a good job but going from a 17 to a 6 is a big differance , like there’s nothing on the end of the shaft.
Pin pointing with the 17 is a learning experience . For me the wiggle back works best and after you get it diled in , very accurate.
The 17 can be a load, if my spot has a lot of siggable signals you get to set it down occasionally but if you get in a clean spot and don’t get a break , it can be a load.
, I can switch arms and not get arm weary . I’ve got a harrness but don’t use it .
There’s some after market coils I guess but I’ve not used any.
They seem to pop up used occasionally
Good luck with your search

Thanks for the reply BT. I also have the 6" and 17" coils also. I have just stated using the 17 in place of the damaged stock coil. It works well if the isn't too much trash, but I don't think I like it for every day use for the type of places I most often hunt. I will probably get another stock coil. Just testing the waters to see if there are other coils that fit that niche that might be better.

I love the 17” AND stock coil AND 6” coil(which I foolishly sold)...haven’t tried others. Stock is damn nice though,I can see why you want another!

I have each of the Minelab coils for the CTX, and the 11" is the one that I use most. Not quite as deep as the 17", and doesn't separate as well as the 6", but would still perform adequately in areas where the other two might be at a disadvantage depending on target density or depth.

Since no one else makes a stock replacement for the CTX (they make plenty for the eTrac), you kind of answer your own question...
It's hard to beat the stock 11" coil for overall use.
