Coil question.

Hi guys, long time.....I've had my AT PRO with its standard coil for about 4 months now and have been using it quite often. I'm loving it and am getting very comfortable with its use. I've been going to parks mostly and, as you know, have run into quite trashy areas, some VERY trashy. I've been thinking about investing into a more appropriate coil for this type of areas and have read that some of you were loving the 5''x8'' and some others the 9''x12''.
Questions#1: should I wait a bit more before buying a new coil?
Question#2: If yest to #1, which coil would you recommend?
I always appreciate your feedback, so don't hesitate to "enlighten"me. Thanks a bunch.

Because you are hunting a very trashy areas, get the 5" x 8" coil. It will pick out good targets amonst the trash much better then the 9" x 12" coil. Also, the large 9" x 12" coil could allow targets to be masked , simply because of it's size, allowing multiple targets to be under it.

The neat thing about switching to a different coil, is that it is almost like getting a different metal detector. The new coil reacts differently to targets. Small coils generally are more sensitive to tinier objects, yet bang real hard on coin sized objects. Concentric coils give a much more accurate ID then DD coils. Concentric coils tend to also be much easier to pinpoint with.

My feeling is, you can't lose getting another coil early on. The 5x8 coil is an amazing coil. It gets in between those big tree roots with ease and pulls keepers consistently for me. I mainly hunt a pounded park where good signals are few and far between. Most of my keepers are coming near masked targets that other machines / coils skipped over, including myself in the past! If you hunt trashy areas a lot and have the patience to slow your swing speed down to a crawl, you will find stuff. HH!

DEFINITELY the 5 x 8 DD coil. You can't beat it for trashy areas.

Go through the area with that 5 x 8 DD getting as much as you can, and cleaning it up a bit.

Then go through it again with the 8.5 x 11 DD coil and get the last few goodies.

You probably won't notice a whole lot of difference going from the 8.5 x 11 DD to a 9 x 12 Concentric, other than some say it pin points easier???

They are both large coils and work well, but the smaller coil with work MUCH better in those trashy areas.

The 5 x 8 coil is not a magic bullet, by any means, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It will let you pick out/separate those targets surprisingly better in the trashy areas.
