Coil Question

It seems like the more I hunt with the stock coil on my Cortes the less I like it. Right now I have a 5.75 on it. I have an 8 concentric donut on my Golden Saber. Since the Saber is really not deep I wonder if I should put the donut on the Cortes and the 5.75 on the Saber. I also wonder if this would make the Saber super shallow.

The old saying goes "You'll never know unless you try"

I really like the 8" donut on my DeLeon, should work well on the C as well.

The 8 inch doughnut coil works great on my Cortes.

When using the doughnut coils I don't use the stuffs, because I mainly hunt grassy areas and I don't want swing the extra weight.

Tabman what do you mean by this. I was really wondering how my old Golden Saber II will work with the 5.75?

I meant to type scuff (coil cover).

Why don't you put the 5.75 on the Golden Saber II and see firsthand how well it works.:)

I am, but the Golden is a Hip mount so this complicates it a little. I always run scuff covers on mine and I really do not know why. I have never worn out a coil.

Tried them out today with the 5.75 on the Golden Saber and the 8 Donut on the Cortes. Golden seemed to like the 5.75 found a few coins which were as deep as the Donut. The small Coil really could see trash. Cortes loved the Donut the only real noticeable difference from the stock coil was that it seemed to lock on to the signal and stay with the ID. Less jumping around. I am not sure if it was the Hole in the coil or what but it seemed to have a better pin point.

In my opinion a round coil discriminates better than a elliptical coil does. I really like the 8 inch doughnut coil a lot.

Now I have to agree. I noticed the ID readings were real close but they were much more steady on the Bar graph. I really expected the old Saber to be really shallow with the 5.75 but I noticed no difference. Now I am waiting on rain. We are so dry here that the cracks sometimes swallows your target before you get to see what it is. I know this severely hurts depth.

My Cortes' have the 9x8" concentric coil. It seems to like it. I also have a 12x10" SEF Butterfly coil, but have never used it.
