coil question

hello i am looking for a little advice on the ctx 3030 17 inch coil. my question is will using the 17 inch coil let me find smaller targets ? i plan on water hunter often and was wondering if a larger coil would pick up smaller gold vers the stock coil ? thank you cliff

It is usually the opposite, smaller coils - smaller targets but the 17 inch coil may very well find the targets you are looking for. What do you consider a small target?

You might want to rethink the 17 inch coil for water hunting. Think about trying to sweep that monster
in the water might wear you out. The stock coil or the 6 inch would be a better option. Plus pinpointing
will be ALOT easier with the two smaller coils versus the 17.

thin chains , charms , i know i am dreaming but ear rings lol . my old tesro tiger shark which i am replacing will pick up earing backs if the bottom is sand . just want to make sure i am not making a mistake by getting the 17 inch for water thank you

Yes it would be a mistake for water hunting. Beaches and open fields is where the 17 would shine.

I wouldn't go with the 17 for the water. However I'd consider one for the wet and dry sand on low trash beaches. The stock coil does great on small stuff I've found some small brass pieces about 2-3mm in diam among iron trash with the stock coil.

Like GateKeeper said I would go with the 6" as an optional coil for the water especially if the area is trashy.

I'd keep the Tiger Shark as a back up if you can afford to. That machine detects small (that is sees through trash). I found my best gold chain with a Tiger!

ty i agree i traded a excal in when i cleaned out all our local swimming holes for a tiger shark and it found small stuff as small as #9 bird shot but nothing foung rings and coins as fast as the excal
