Coil Question

Hi All
I'm looking to buy a 6" coil but not sure what freq. would be best for me. I hunt mostly cellar holes and old homes with LOTS on iron right now i use stock 9" coil. The ground mineralization is usually between low 30's to high 40's looking for advise 7.5 kHz or the 18.75 kHz to find old silver and copper coins. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
HH

My choice is the 18.75 6" round DD for in iron. I'm a relic hunter, so the choice for you would be about the same...........MO

I was using the stock coil for a long time on my 705 with good results but no silver finds. I bought and installed the 6" DD 18.75 and the silver began to fly out of the ground, even in parks where I hunted many times before. I can even hunt at full sensitivity on mild ground. It's a silver killer and trash separation and pinpointing are excellent.

Thanks for the advise I heard it was good for gold wasn't sure on silver and copper. Thanks again

I have the 6inch 18.75 and it has found boat loads of coins I missed with stock coil. The little coil goes deep to.

Hello,
I am a novice. I recently purchased the Minelab X-terra 705. I am very happy with it. I still have a ton to learn and I hope I am not asking a redundant question. I live on the South East Coast of Texas. I have plenty of beaches to hunt. What would be the best coil to use for coins and jewelry both at the beach and other soil types? I am primarily interested in hunting gold and silver jewelry. I appreciate any advice that you may have to share.
Thanks, Jasin

Jasin,
I cannot speak for beach hunting but my 6" DD 18.75 has found all of my silver coins as opposed to the stock coil. I can also go over areas that I hunted with the stock coil and continue to find plenty of clad and some silver.
Good Luck with the 705, it's a great machine.

I like the DD coils.
I have heard the 6" 7.5khz is HOT. and very deep for a 6" coil, but I use the 6" 18.75. I also like the 5 x 10 alot.

Jasin for the beach you will probably do better with a larger coil in DD configuration for the mineralization. I would use my round 7.5 DD or 5 x 10 DD.

Have had an Xterra 70 for a few years but haven't used it much. Just starting to use it more around old home places, parks, etc. especially for coins. Called Kellyco where I bought my detector and asked them about the 6" coil 7.5 kHz versus the 6" coil 18.75 kHz. They told me the 6" 7.5 kHz would definitely be best for trashy areas such as around homesteads, etc., but I noticed almost all, if not all of you have the 18.75 kHz. Is there any reason you picked that one over the 7.5 kHz? Please explain the difference to a newbie if you will. I am going to purchase one of the 6" coils but really don't understand the difference in kHz and what that does for you in the field. I do understand concentric vs dd but just not which kHz I should choose. I now have the 9" standard concentric 7.5kHz coil and the 5x10 elliptical 18.75kHz dd coil. So which 6" coil should I buy???

Thanks

In reference to your question about frequencies, the lower the frequency the deeper the coil will detect. I bought the 6"DD 18.75 because the parks that I hunt are not particularly trashy and I have found quite a lot of deep silver coins with it. Not sure if the 7.5 would get much deeper since lots of my coins were 10" and 12" down. Hope that this helps
