Coil Question

Coinseeker 78

New member
I just got a Whites 6X10DD coil. The coil is doing a fantastic job for me. However I have a Question about this coil. How deep will it go on a coin sized object in moderate mineralized soil?:used with the MXT. :detecting:

I think that is a hard question to answer, so many variables. But I can give you an example from my finds on the MXT and 6x10 Eclipse coil. C/J mode ground reading 79 in my area recently with damp soil. I have found clad quarters & silver quarters at 7-8 inches with a solid signal and good VDI reading, Past 8" to 9 inches a good signal but not an accurate VDI, I have found some very deep around 9-10" no VDI and very weak signal. Clad dimes/silver dimes 6-7 inches past that 7-8" deep softer signal and no VDI. Most of my really good finds are around 4-5 inches deep, nice silver coins. In Europe I usually use the concentric coils, but the soil reads in the low 60's and I have pulled out quarter size Roman coins at 9-10" without a problem using the stock coil. Hope this helps a bit.

In my soil here 6 to 8 inches is about max with the 6 X 10 on my MXT, I have got faint signals that were deeper but did not register on the VDI.....:detecting:

Thanks all for the helpful information. I have noticed signals at deep readings that are not strong enough to give a VDI. Quite the little coil!

Bob & Titan Man,

If those faint signals sound good, I'd dig them even if you can't get a VDI on them. You might be passing up some nice deep silver coins.

I do dig them, I listen for the signals I really don't care what the VDI reads.........................
