coil question

burnitup

New member
I currently have an x70 with the stock 9.5 inch concentric and the 10.5 DD both 7.5khz, my question is i want to get a six inch coil for coin huntin but not sure which one. From reading lots of posts i was thinking the 18.75 DD but then i get worried about that coils sensitivity to iron and aluminum so any and all help greatly appreciated, oh and by the way 75% of huntin in old homesites,25% parks thanx.

I do not seem to have much of a problem with iron. It sure does hit deep on pulltabs though....I have all three of the coils you mention and the 6" is probably my favorite coil of the three. I have no problem locating coins with it.

I have both 6-inch coils and for the most part, if you took off the labels, I couldn't tell them apart. Both are hot little coils that will detect gold, silver and copper coins at similar depths. The higher frequency may be a bit more sensitive to the lower conductive targets (as you said). But any negative aspects of that have been offset by the better separation characteristics of the DD. And frankly, that is the reason I want a smaller coil. Separation. JMHO HH Randy
