Coil question on XL PRO

D&P-OR

Well-known member
There's been a lot of discussion on coils for the XL PRO.---But here's one for you guys that have used both of these following two coils.---What do you see (performance wise) as the positives & negatives (pros & cons) of the Black Max 950 Pro coil (XL PRO stock coil) versus the Royal 800 coil?---In other words, of those two coils, which one do you like best for certain types of hunting & why?---Inquireing minds wanta know!!! ---------Del

is standard with the XL Pro and XLT. While I usually use one of the 6

Thanks guys.---Didn't know for sure if the Royal 800 was considered "thin profile" or not.--So both the Pro Scan 800 & Royal 800 are "thin profile"---I'm learnin!! That Black Max 950 that came on the XL PRO is quite a thin profile coil (more so than the Royal 800).---Don't know about the Pro Scan, I can't find one. :)----Seems like Whites sure makes a lot of coils that are of different color, names & decals but are basically the same coil.---Is that a correct asessment?--------Del

and I like it quite a bit I used the 950 for my Idx for a long time, and then tried a 5.3 coil for a while. Thie 8" inch fits right in the middle there. The problem with the 950 coil for me is that Mineralization tends to begin to interfere with depth. The 8" feels tighter and is a happy medium between depth and separation. Most of what we find is penny sized so a smaller coil fits the bill. I trust the Id and discrimination more as well on the 8". I dug a wheatie and an iron nail 2" apart 3" down the other day with the Eight inch in a park. If I was hunting a farm field like where I live than bigger may be better. But remember the treasure is where the trash is.

physical size, but the Royal 800 coils have the heavy-duty cable, while the ProScan 800's have the skinny cable they used to use.

I got from a dealer Sunday is the thin cable, unlike the heavy-duty cable on a new 5.3 Eclipse I got yesterday for my MXT. A friend had a problem with her ProScan 800 (thin cable) which she had on her XLT when we went to White's to have detectors checked out before a ghost town jaunt, and rather than repair the coil they replaced it with a Royal 800. She hasn't had a problem and noted the difference. I think the function issue had to do with the cable and not the coil, specifically.

My stock 950 on my new-to-me XLT has the thin cable as well and there's no problem. I wouldn't be too concerned. As long as the detectror/coil combination is working for you, who cares about the coil thickness? :)

No difference in the sheilding. They just decided to make a thicker plastic for the cord. That would make the coil more durable. Like woods hunting and brush hunting. You are right there is no difference in the hunting and the EMI of any of my coils for my 6000XLPRO. Man I love this machine. You can do so much with it and all the different modes. It just great in the trash with the 5.3" and even the small 4x6" for the super trash.. I have got to thin my herd out though. I just got to many detectors. I just got the V3 yesterday and naturally it has been raining. I am really looking forward to using this detector. I think it will be a keeper. I will mostly be using it for Jewelery hunting. Well thanks again Monte I really appreciate the Reply.. HH :D: :D: Jerry aka Tinfoil

Del,

I liked the XL pro the most with the 5.3 bullseye coil and 8''. That was for my type of hunting. [European farmfields with sometimes a lot of trash] I never forget the look on the face of my friends with their minelabs. The xl pro smoked them all.
