Coil Question For Sovereign Elite (Need Help?)

Prospector

New member
I just purchased a Sovereign Elite that I hope to use primarily around old home sites and for relic hunting. It comes with the 10" tornado coil. I am thinking of buying the 8" SUN RAY INTRUDER S-8 for better target separation and quicker response. Can anyone who has used both of these coils give me their opinon as to depth, response speed, etc? Also, I have heard people talking about getting ten to twelve inches on dimes and quarters with the Elite. Is this valid information? In average soil conditions can someone give me some typical depths on various items they have found with their Sovereigns? Thanks!

The S8 will give you better seperation because its a smaller coil. Not sure what you mean by quicker response but if you mean a quicker reset on your threshold then loweing your sens will help that. You can set the Sovs sens real low and still get good depth. Try it on a target thats deep, adjust the sens after youve located a deep coin and you will see.
Another coil you might consider is the 8" Tornado coil.
The 10" Tornado coil is a heck of a coil and beats both of the 8" coils on depth.
10 to 12" on the beach I know you can get with a Sov (here in NJ) but inland others will have to chime in. Ive never found coins that deep with it inland but I dont hunt much inland.

I used both the S8 and the Tornado 800 on my XS. I liked the Slim line 800 better tones and smoother with the sensitivity maxed. The Tornado 800 is a very underrated coil.I usually use the Tornado 1000 now,but the smaller coil will separate very well and still maintain depth. Its not easy to find a used Tornado 800 coil at a cheap price.

Ron,

Sounds like you like the 8 inch Tornado coil, I just picked up one used, but looks like it was never used so I can try it out and see what I think. I think that and the 11 inch Coinsearch coils are the only 2 I haven't tried yet, so we will give this 8 inch and try when the ground thaws for us up here. I like the 10 inch Tornado coil on my GT and was going to switch it when I got it as I was not a fan of the 8 or 10 inch BBS coils as i like the S-8 and the S12 of Sun Rays and the 8 inch Coinsearch of Minelabs. This 10 inch Tornado coil is very good and glad I kept it on as it has done well and felt if the 8 inch Tornado coil worked as good I wanted one and was going to get a new one as used was tough, but one of my Customers had one so I took it in on trade, so now I will be able to try one, that is if i don't sell it first.

These Sovereigns sure are awesome aren't they?

Rick I think you'll be pleased with the target separation with the smaller Tornado 800 coil.My Sovereign seems to run smooth even with the sensitivity maxed.Just curious if you have spare time with the winter weather compare an air test with this coil and the S8,which be may surprised with the results. Before someone comments about air test in the this weather good luck with a coin garden or any hunting in the northern US until late March. The Sovereign's do work great, just picked a XS2 box up as a spare.
