coil protector

I have come up with an idea that may help some of you as it has helped me. I placed black foam pipe insulation around my coil edge what it has helped with is protecting the sides of my coil where as before I might hit a tree or the side of a sidewalk and put a major dent or scratch in my coil and now even if I place my coil face down it will never touch the ground. And believe it or not it slowed down my swinging speed and that was a big problem for me.Just cut the foam to fit and secure it with plastic wire ties.Even if you have a coil cover it seems to make the detector feel better in your hands. My 250 now seems to be balanced.I hope this helps someone.

Hummm, I have that foam all over mine, but never
tried it around the coil..Probably cuz I have the
covers, except for my 9x12 coil, which I made a
temp homemade version.. I used the foam to make
the handle cover the whole tube from the control
head to the stand. Also have one I can slip on
the lower mast when I'm in super dirty areas, and
don't want to get mud, etc on the machine. I also
made stand extenders from that foam, and use small
black tie straps to hold them on. I probably hold
the machine different than most. I rarely clamp
it to my wrist like most/many do..I grab it under
the handle, and let it almost balance hanging nearly
straight down. I swing back and forth pretty much about a foot
or two in front of my feet. I don't like it strapped to me,
cuz I don't like it on me when I'm digging. I always
set it down next to me.. I see some that dig while
they are holding the detector, but it's kinda cumbersome
to me, being I use a handheld pinpointer that I have
to grab, etc.. I may try some of that foam on my big
coil. It's the one I worry about the most, at least
until I get a real cover on it. My present cover
is about 4 layers of plastic trash bag taped around it.
And I still baby it being it's not a very solid cover..
basically just keeps it clean.

I use the foam on my coils with covers also because if I hit my coil on something hard or possibly stumble and knock it into a tree or something else it might hurt the electronics by knocking them loose and the foam will help cushion the blow I have turned quickly on playgrounds and hit the coil on the swing set pipes and that sure is a nasty noise.GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!! Yep, could soften things up a bit..That armourflex is
pretty cushy..BTW, they also make a "thick" version.
City code here in Houston now... Welp, I got an e-mail today.
In my best "the jerk" voice...
The new coil covers are here!, the new coil covers are here!
So should have it pretty soon. I'm curious to see if it's
semi solid, or like the stock coil more open covers... I think the
9x12 covers are more covered on the bottom, if they
used the type used on the previous big coils.
