Coil plug problem, any help?

I have an excelerator 10" coil with a bad plug on the machine end of the cable. Every time that I touch the cable near the plug it shorts out and screams. I have contacted kellyco and they said they cannot repair it, but possibly get me a plug. Does anyone know if I bought an entire new cable from whites if it would just screw into the excelerator coil and work? It seems easier to pay for a new cable than attempt to solder a new plug on the old cable. Any help is very much appreciated, what should I do?
Thanks,

I believe I would have Kellyco send you that plug if it is free of charge. They are relatively easy to solder on. Make a wiring diagram noting the wire color codes for each connector pin.
Clip off each wire, then remove the soldered leftover from each pin. Limit the heat and time on each connector contact to prevent from loosening the pin where it mounts in the connector body.
Strip off about 1/8" of insulation from each wire, tin bare wire with solder, then solder each wire into respective pin location. Replace the connector cover, youre done!

If you don't feel comfortable doing the job, I would be happy to do it if you mail the coil and new connector to me. I have about 30 years as an electronics technician.

Thanks for the advice. I took the plug cover off and after about 7 tries, fixed the short. Thanks for giving me the confidence to give it a try!
