The AT-Pro is Boxedup N ready to go in too Garrett, Yes WE are Customers?????? I cant be the only one of Garretts customers too have this happen??? Guss i well Get out my WHITES Eagle,

[size=large]i mentioned this last year just after i got my atp. i noticed how weak the plug pins were and the fix would have been just a little bit sturdier pins. i. wouldn't it cost less to use better quality parts and no problems with so many warranty claims than cheap ( very cheap ) parts and lots of warranty claims? bad reputations too boot. i just got mine back because of a problem in the cable of my atp. this is a very good machine. it's just that it seems that all the problems plaqueing it could have been avoided with better parts and quality control. maybe it's time for Garrett to re-vamp the Sales and the R&D depts. get rid of the family and friends and hire folks willing to really make the company take off.

still much better than any china version.

Hi Widebody, thanks 4R your reply!!!!! Yes it is a Great Hobby, I just Needed too vent sye, I will get out my Backup Detector tomorrow
The Whites Eagle II SL 90 with the Big Foot coil, Yes your Right would have ben good to have stronger pins or a different connector would have ben no problem, Hay????? as thay get repaired Garrett should put different Connectors???? Those Hi payed Guys can think of one????
One you can get a grip on???

Mine have not broken off yet, but I change coils more than once a day.... I really HATE how hard it is to attach the coil and headphones cables, once they are lined up (which is like putting the monkey back in the can) and secured, I have a dickens of a time tightening them with such a small area to do so. GARRETT, love your detector, HATE how hard it is to change coils, and I have 3 of them!!!!!! This will, without a doubt, be a part of my deciding factor when buying another detector in the (near) future.

I started using my Infinium with the same pin configuration in 2007, and own both the AT Gold and AT Pro using them all extensively. I am not defending Garrett as to whether the connectors are good, bad etc. I read years ago when reading up on the Infinium that the pins are very thin, and bending them will result in a probable breakage, so I have always taken extra care when changing my coils. I have always changed my coils at home on the kitchen table using lots of light prior to my hunts, just to make sure I line up those pins carefully. I have never bent or broken the pins on the coil connector. Perhaps I am lucky, or maybe it could happen at some later date. But I know that if they break, Garrett will surely look after me. There have been some other issues in the past, and the users posted about them. I haven't seen any about those pins breaking yet?

The AT Detectors i Love the Quick response, But you better Babby the Coil N Headphone Connectors,
Happy New Years too all,

I also have a Infinium and an ATG the Infinium has had many years of use swapping coils and headphones without issue. I would gather that based on prior history of the pin configuration Garret kept with what works. Now I do agree that I have wondered about bending a pin but in years of use its never happened. I do agree that tightening the things is tough and finger tight has worked fine.

I've been detecting since the early 70's with many brand/models of detectors and that pin design is NOT user friendly by any means. My buddy first encountered issues with it when he got his Infinium and could not believe Garrett utilized the same connector on the AT Pro. Matter of fact he had to assist me when I took it out of the box. Now I just leave the 5 x 8 coil on.

I had a problem at the coil connection right out of the box with it losing connectivity and the audio not working on the external speaker. I had to have the connection just right to make it work. I used it all summer like that because I was to stubborn to give it up for a week or two. I just got it back today with a new coil and it looks like new guts in my housing. I put it together and turned it on.. Works now! I did change out my coils quite a bit also and it did it with either one I used. Love the machine though. When it works, it works great!

Hi ML , You have my entails too cool!!!!!!! Yes some people have ben Lucky with the pins??? But im not one of theam???
I sent it off today N wen i get it back i will swop it 4R a New AT-Gold with my Dealer and never take the small 5X8 coil off???
Mickey Lewis,

I see what i did wrong now, Wen i was trying too find the key slot for the pins too Line up i was twisting the connector????
I would Look at the Dee slot and put the connectors together twist a little too get it to drop in???? My Bad???
But its just that you got to Babby it so, Is the Pisser???? Thear you go, So watch out??? Leats i Attmite????
Mickfin

The problem is is not the pins, they need to have a longer line up slot and just a little more room to get your fingers between the unit and connecter.I just hate to change coils!!! :rage:
