Coil on new MXT 300?

Personally I would not buy the 300, most of the ones that do don't like the weight of the coil and I see them selling it. I would buy the stock MXT with the 9.5 coil and then get a smaller coil like the 5.3 or 4 X 6, or even get the 6 X 10 DD, that's the one that stays on my machine 90% of the time. To start out with the 9.5 is the coil the MXT is designed for its a great all purpose coil and easy to pinpoint with. The 12" is heavy does not do well in trashy areas but is great for covering allot of ground. I guess it really depends on what kind of hunting you are going to do. But go back and read some of the past post on the MXT300 and see for your self. A new person with a MXT does not need a big 12" coil and very few old timers need a coil that size ether.............Just my opinion

Bob said it all. Won't repeat it again. Please check the back posts too as he stated. Lots of good info and hopefully you'll get the coil for you that sings out.....WOW!!!!!!!! HH, Nancy

In trashy parks and the like, I find the stock 9.5 too big. I have the Super 12 and it's too big except in fairly clean areas also. The largest coil I have that works fairly well in trash is the 6X10DD. I have the 5.3 and the 4x6 which do a great job in trashy areas and the 5.3 is deep enough to be a regular use coil a fair share of the time. When I first started detecting some years ago, I had it in my mind that a smaller coil was probably a handicap, but over time, gaining experience, I find that I use the stock and smaller coils much more than larger. Except for ground coverage in fairly clean areas or for deeper relic or cache hunting, they usually aren't the best choice for coin hunting and general detecting. My two bits.

Smile I am not a new user. I don't plan on buying a new MXT. I have all the coils that you all mentioned. I just had one simple question that NOONE answered. I smiple wanted to know how the coil that comes with the new 300 compares to the 9.5 that came with the old MXT. Nothing else.

You did get your question answered!......Read the above posts.....:please:

In comparing the two coils, the coil that comes with the 300 is 12 inches round and the 9.5 coil is 9.5 inches round.

I'm a bit different than the others here and my ground is mild... My Super 12 has the same depth as the stock 9.5 on pennies and dimes.. Nickels 1" more, quarters 1+", but halves and dollars 3-4" (this was done with air tests with gb locked from last hunt, and in actual field use.) is where it really shines.. The Super 12 or the 5.3 are on my M6 90% of the time.. I really don't have a problem with it even in trashy schoolyard sites.. I use the super 12 first and then run the area with the 5.3.. Works well this way.. Just be methodical and slow down.. Would be great on relics..Grab the pinpoint right over a sweet tone and be surprised..Wouldn't sell it for the world!!

.......................

That cracks me up.......:clapping:.....That is so funny ............... I love it........:lmfao:

I thought the same thing Bob. Just the facts Mam. Just the facts.

I think the question that dirtdigginglady was trying to ask was how the 9.5 and the 12 compare in the depth for finding burried items.
I think she knows the comparison in the sizes...This is the way I understood it..:whites:

We all know what she asked Joel and several tried to answer her question the best as they could. What they can't tell her is how the coils will work for her, in her ground, with her hunting skills and hunting styles, swing speed and many other variables. The simple truth is both are concentric coils, one larger than the other. She says she is not a new user, so she knows larger coils goes deeper and covers more ground than smaller ones and smaller coils are better in more trashy ground with better separation.

Merci ! :laugh:Je compren .

EXcuse me but I don't see anything funny about it at all.

Actually I don't see any reason as to why we need to get all uptight. From what I read, most folks have offered comments on what you asked, it may not be to your liking, but they answered. Maybe you should clarify what specifically you need compared with the two coils. Size? Depth? Weight? Working in highly mineralized ground? Pinpointing? The more specific your question, the more specific the answer. If you just ask a vague question, then you'll get a vague answer. Just my opinion.

Larry IL. I believe the 12 inch coil is 12 inches in diameter not 12 inches round. The 9.5 inch coil is 9,5 inches in diameter not 9.5 inches round. Or am i missing your point.
